St. Pius X School places a high value on extra-curricular activities. Students are encouraged to be involved in activities such as
Students in grades K-5 are invited to participate in extra-curricular Chess Club. Chess Club meets at 8:10 a.m. on Tuesdays. Any child who understands the basic concepts of the game is invited to join. Students with closely matched skill levels are paired together. All 4th and 5th grade students are given the opportunity to participate in the Invent Iowa program. Students working alone or with a partner to brainstorm, research, prototype, and present their invention at a school-wide ‘invention convention’. Students may advance to the regional convention, as well as the state-wide Invent Iowa Invention Convention.
St. Pius X School has a long history of representation at both the regional and state wide conventions.

Private music lessons are available at St. Pius X School and are offered before school, after school, and over the summer. Lessons can be on an instrument a student has already started playing or an instrument they are interested in learning. Piano lessons are also offered to students of all levels, from beginning to advanced.
